Company for
your coding day.
Your agents are working. Your buddy is too.
Buddygotchi turns work, waiting and little wins into pixel expressions, sounds and connected moods.
An open-source companion by Mellow Machines Lab.
We’re still developing the product; it is not on sale yet.

Work has a little more life.
Look over, see what your agents are doing, and get a small reaction when something changes.
Keep you company.
The companion follows active coding work. Expressions and sounds give the session a bit of character.
Catch the waiting moment.
When an agent needs you, your buddy can flag it. A tap opens the waiting agent so you can take over.
Enjoy the little wins.
Model-guided reactions can celebrate a finished task. The mood helps decide how that moment feels.

Connected moods.
Small surprises.
Buddygotchi’s model chooses among related moods and available expressions. A change in the coding session can get a context-sensitive response.
Personality sets the tone; mood shapes the feeling; the ongoing task determines what the buddy is doing. Nightly personality learning is still a work in progress.

A product taking shape.
Today, you can explore the source and supported hardware. The finished desk companion is still in development.
The setup uses a Mac host and a supported ESP32 display. Start with the current repository guide for installation and hardware details.
| Host | Mac · current README requires macOS 26 or later. |
|---|---|
| Display | Supported ESP32 CYD and Waveshare boards; check the guide for exact models. |
| Agent hooks | Claude Code and Codex work and attention events. |
| AI reactions | A Jev API key enables model-guided reactions. Work and attention status can run without it. |
| Availability | Open-source development. Hardware sales and delivery details are still being worked out. |
The current build requires setup. Demo clips illustrate behavior; we’ll share real-device demonstrations as the project progresses.

We’re sharing the work as it develops: new interactions, small improvements and what we learn from using it.
